Being a shopaholic, I frequent T. Nagar and the places around it. Yesterday, I bumped into Murugan Idli Shop at G. N. Chetty Road, T. Nagar. The place was darn crowded. On seeing this, my first instinct was to find a less-crowded restaurant and eat in peace. But there was something about the place that made me wait and in-fact pulled me in to have my dinner. Now, what’s that? What’s so special about the place?? It can simply be the smell of the food that reminds of mom’s kitchen, or just for the plain fact that they offer the best idlis in town as they rightly claim.

Yes, for those who don’t know Chennai and are new to it, trust me this place offers one of the best idlis that you have ever laid your hands on!! The idlis that they serve here blend well with a variety of chutneys which range from coconut, tomato, coriander and mint along with the tasty sambar and idly podi.  Dosas are also made crispy and good to eat. Sweet pongal is heaven. Variety rice is also being served, though I have not checked on it yet. Meals are also served during lunch time. And yes, I almost forgot, don’t forget to check out on the 15 mini ghee idlis with sambar. It is just yummy. All this offered at very economical prices!

The shop is crowded at all times due to its popularity and you will have to wait for sometime before you find yourself a seat. The tables are closely placed. You can’t expect to get a separate table for your gang or family. Now I am a person who is a bit finicky about sharing my table with a complete stranger. But this didn’t actually bother me after sometime as I was completely engrossed in eating idlis! The ambiance of the place is very good in spite of the crowd. Kids play around and it is fun watching them eat with occasional threats from their parents. You can also see different classes of people, their behaviors, which makes the wait worthwhile!

This is the perfect place for a light bite or a quick dinner of those soft, fluffy clouds of delight. A definite thumbs up for it!

note: If you are one of those lucky people who can go here when its not crowded, you will sure have lots of time to think. Now you know where my thoughts for the "recent" burst of poems has come from :)
