The Unicorn

away for so long
i had gone to fight a war
invented by my own head
guns blazing, killing all that dared to intrude in my path...

i built a barbed fence around myself
circled my heart with a huge fortress
i was waging a war that had no meaning
that had no purpose

just like a fairytale
what was once my prison
crumbled overnight
what i built throughtout my lifetime
took just a day to crumble

after the rain has fallen
after all the tears has washed  my eyes,

I slowly drift off to sleep
Before I close my eyes,
I see something in the waves.
My eyes widen when I see something coming out of the ocean
I sit up, fearful of what it might be
A white creature slowly emerges from the blue waters
He slowly walks up onto the beach
The light from the setting sun, made the creature glow in a white light
The water streaming down his mane, and tail glistened in the dying sunlight like diamonds
His hooves pawed at the sand, as if saying "I am ready"
As if waking up from a dream, the unicorn broke our stare, and returned to the sea
Never again did I see the unicorn, nor did I ever forget him

Open your mind and
Find a unicorn, it's right inside you.

Tell me of the unicorn, they say,
He has never appeared during my day,
Evening either, at the sun's dying rays.

Unknowingly asking an impossible thing,
None can describe the unicorn seen,
If only they could try to believe in themselves,
Could try to imagine this being that's been,
Open their minds and their hearts as well,
Run in the starlight, the unicorn at their side,
Now they could have known who the unicorn is.

note: the last 20 lines have been taken from another poem about unicorns. I do not claim these lines to be mine. These lines are so "correct" that i did not want to tamper with them and thus added them here to complete my writing.

Unicorn - A mythical beast with an antelope's body, lion's tail and a bearded horse's head with a single horn on its forehead.

The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references he is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful -
